Abraham first attended a Smart Choices training program when we taught it for the first class in Bulawayo in 2011. At that time he was a member to the Youth for Christ mission led by Pastor Sheunesu (Sharky) Masuka. Three years later in 2014 Abraham had a new position as the Director of Scripture Union for the South and Western regions of Matabeleland. Scripture Union had mostly open access to all of the schools in that area, which was ideal for them to bring the Smart Choices program into all of the schools where they already had ongoing activity. They also had opportunities to get into new schools, provided BOHI had the funds to keep funding the projects. In 2014 our US team trained 18 or 20 Scripture union volunteers in Bulawayo. Under Abraham’s leadership they have been making headway getting Smart Choices rolling smoothly.
The New Challenge in 2016 for all of the teams in Zimbabwe that there is a Director of Primary and Secondary Education in Zimbabwe and he has been eliminating all Christian-based programs in the Schools. The other major challenge that we have is that the economy is so fragile and jobs are difficult to come by. There is no chance of any kind of in country fundraising, so all faith based missions depend very heavily on outside sources of funds. The burden is on us to raise 100% of the funds required.
